s on Twitter Files (8) // (Scott Johnson).
Lee Fang made an unannounced appearance in the role of Twitter Files’ chronicler. Yesterday, he posted part 8 here. What is Lee Fang doing here? This is Fang’s thread’s beginning with the topic heading and sentence.
1. TWITTER FILE PART 8
*How Twitter Quietly Aided The Pentagon’s Covert Online PsyOp Campaign
Twitter documents show that despite promises to shut down state-run propaganda networks, the social media giant has directly supported the U.S military’s influence operations.

Old Twitter was a secret collaborator with government in many ways. Fang also adds the CENTCOM/military dimensions. This is what I get from Fang’s thread. He also reported his findings in a more conventional style for The Intercept in this section. Fang ends his thread with these tweets.
21. Here is my report with more detail. I was granted access to Twitter for a few more days. I signed/agreed nothing. Twitter had no input in anything I wrote or did. The searches were conducted by a Twitter attorney so I may not have seen all of the results. https://t.co/AgcFy71fE3

Although I could be wrong, I would like to point out that this operation was not directed at citizens of the United States. It did not undermine enemies of the United States. It did not suppress speech of disfavored participants in order to serve partisan interests. And it had no impact on our elections. Fang does not make such distinctions, but I find them fundamental given what we’ve seen so far.
