Tensions Reach A Fever Pitch At California’s Final Reparations Task Force Meeting [VIDEO]

The tensions reached a feverish pitch this week at a California meeting on reparations as activists reprimanded members of the California Department of Justice. This was the last meeting of the California DoJ after a series of discussions where the state is weighing the cash payments it will make to descendants of slaves and members of the state’s African American community.
Last month, members from the panel recommended that the state of California allocate funds to pay reparations for Black people in the State.
The cost of reparations could be as high as $1.2 trillion.
As the panel opened to public comments, tensions erupted as some attendees claimed that $1.2 trillion in compensation was not enough.

“Don’t act like a cheap piece of meat!” A man yelled to the task force, as he advocated a ‘national separation’ between African Americans in the United States.
After the man who claimed that he led a “1619 Party” spoke, another speaker urged attendees to stand and demand immediate reparations.
“What do we want?” he asked. The crowd shouted back, “Reparations!” He replied, “When?” “Now!” they said.
California is the first to consider paying reparations to black residents, as several prominent politicians such as Senator Elizabeth Warren(D-Ma. ) Many prominent politicians, such as Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Ma. ), have called for a national reparations policy.

Several attendees at the California Department of Justice’s final Reparations Task Force Meeting created a scene Thursday during the public comments section of the event, demanding reparations.
Several California residents were excited to have the opportunity to speak directly with the board, shouting into the microphone that the time for reparations was “now!”
One person encouraged the crowd to raise their hands and chant about their desire for restitution. Another stood up and demanded a sort of “divorce settlement” between Black Americans and other Americans.
The Reparations Task Force’s meeting this week was the last in a series public events that facilitated discussions between California residents, state officials and about potential restitution of perceived inequality between African Americans.
