According to Fain, it is crucial that not only do we protest, but that we do so in unison. In order to support this goal, various labor councils in different regions of the country have recently approved resolutions in favor of Fain’s suggestion, urging their partners to attempt to adjust the timing of their contract negotiations. Most collective bargaining agreements have a provision that prohibits strikes during the term of the contract, so the end date of the contract is usually when a strike is most likely to occur. “I believe it is a courageous decision for unions to aim for more than just maintaining their current state.” Connor Lewis is the president of the Seven Mountains Central Labor Council.
