All of these announcements were expected. All the recently implemented regulations are the completed versions of rules that have been under development for several years. The reason for implementing the new rules this week is due to the calendar and a legislation known as the Congressional Review Act, which allows Congress a limited period to overturn recently enacted rules by the White House. By introducing these rules at this time, the Biden administration is safeguarding them from the upcoming Congress that will be in office in January 2024. After the upcoming election, there is a risk that Republicans who oppose these regulations could take over both chambers. However, even if the rules are approved now, there is no certainty that they will remain in effect. If Donald Trump were to become president, he has the power to implement new regulations that would overturn those put in place by Biden.
